Celebrities react to Supreme Court overturning Roe v. Wade

Celebrities of all S.e.xes, ages and races woke up Friday morning in a fury after learning that the Supreme Court had overturned its landmark 1973 Roe v. Wade decision.

For the past 49 years, abortions have been legal throughout the United States under the premise that it’s a person’s protected right to choose what to do with their body, and stars across the board took to social media to express their rage that that power will now reside in the hands of the lawmakers in each of the 50 states.

“They will never end abortion. Only safe abortion. This is not about life. It’s about control. Those motherf–kers,” Sophia Bush tweeted after news broke.

Padma Lakshmi added in a three-part tweet, “People will still get abortions. These procedures won’t stop just because Roe v. Wade is overturned. This will only prevent safe, legal abortions from taking place.”

“People who have the money, time, and resources will still find avenues for their procedures,” she went on. “But the most vulnerable of our community? What choices are those individuals, who are mostly BIPOC, left with? This is the catalyst for a public health crisis.”

Lakshmi concluded, “The right to decide when to start a family or not is a choice every individual should be able to make on their terms when the time is right for them. This freedom and dignity is something we should all fight to preserve.”

Viola Davis told her Instagram followers she was “GUTTED” over the decision and reminded them that “now more than ever we have to use our voice and power! WE the people.”

Eva Longoria called the move an “attack on women’s freedom,” while Josh Gad kept his feelings on the matter even more concise.

“You don’t need 280 characters today,” he tweeted. “Just one word: Rage.”

Finneas was also succinct with his message: “I don’t even know what to say other than absolutely f–k this.”

Andy Cohen, like several others, pointed out that our country’s judicial system seems to be more concerned with controlling people’s reproductive rights than it is with establishing safer gun laws these days.

“What a sad day for this country. Guns for everybody and no reproductive rights. Twisted. Twisted,” he lamented.

Valerie Bertinelli added, “The majority of Americans want stricter gun laws and more access to healthcare. The minority of white Christian nationalists run our country and are not Christian in any sense of the word. We are NOT the greatest country in the world.”

Amy Schumer echoed the sentiments with far more sarcasm. “Late term abortions via school shootings are still available,” she wrote on her Instagram Story.

Sophie Turner even hopped on the social media app to express her disappointment in real time. “If anyone cared about saving lives, then after any of the mass shootings that have happened here in the United States, we would have gun control,” she argued. “It’s not about saving lives, it’s about controlling a woman’s body and controlling a woman’s right to choose. And it’s absolutely f–king disgusting.”

Keke Palmer feels similarly. “I’m past disgusted w/ my country and their constant inability to protect one another’s right & keep their word. How u overturning the wrong things?” she tweeted. “So many things to overturn that make sense. But this is what you chose??”

Taylor Swift told her Twitter followers she’s “absolutely terrified that this is where we are — that after so many decades of people fighting for women’s rights to their own bodies, today’s decision has stripped us of that.”

Meanwhile, Ireland Baldwin wrote on her Instagram Story, “F–k this absolutely disgusting country,” and admitted she was “ashamed to be an American.”

And Bette Midler, like Lakshmi, needed more than 280 character to relay her anguish.

“Some bitch on TV saying, ‘have your baby and then give it up for adoption; adoption is a beautiful and noble thing to do.’ She’s delusional. Many babies are never adopted but are shunted from foster home to foster home where they are abused & used as slaves until they age out,” she tweeted.

“This is so short-sighted and selfish of the right wing,” she argued. “1) it’s none of your goddamned business what I do with my body! 2) the country will soon be littered with orphans that no one wants; are they going to raise every unwanted child to adulthood? No f–king way! They won’t even pay for teachers and decent schools! They won’t pay for child care! They want more white people and don’t care how they get them or what shape they’re in when they are grown.”
