True Life Story: My Family Is Pressuring Me But I Have Other Please Advise Me
Hi listeners of Lively Stones!
There’s this matter I’m having, and it’s very confusing asf.
I have this uncle who resides in America, he does sends money and stuffs to we his family over here. Recently, I wrote my final exams, now preparing for NYSC. He called me as soon as he heard I was done with school.
He asked me what my plan was, and I told him I’m trying to get a job before I register for nysc and then I’ll redeploy to work in that same place. He then asked about my fashion business (I’m a fashion designer and I sew for mates in school). He said that’s a job on its own and that I can get a machine right there in my house even before getting a shop, so I can sew for people.
He asked me to list the machines and type of gen I’ll need so he can sponsor it for me.
Fast forward, he sent #500k for the equipment to buy for my fashion business, I really do have high dreams for this fashion business, I really do. And he made me promise that by that same period of time next year, I’ll provide the liquidity of what I’ve achieved Soo far with the capital.
Afterwards, my aunt advise me to keep the money in a fixed account, save up some during my nysc service year and then find more…for the purpose of traveling abroad. This is the bone of confusion!
I personally do not see anything special about people traveling abroad, I don’t know why I feel like that. I absolutely know they earn money and send to families over here and I know it’s one good option. But for reasons I can’t decipher, though, I don’t really fancy it.
Now I’m quite sure my mum and other family members are in support of my aunt. They really do not believe that a fashion designer can make it in Nigeria.
One problem is even if I finally decide to use the money for travel, how would I tell him, my uncle, that I want to keep the money he gave me to set up a business to save up for travel?
Is the best decision really to set up the business or to save up for travel?
Gosh, I’m soooo confused!
