True Life Story : My Younger Brother Is About To Make A Foolish Mistake-Pls Advise

Hello Lively Stones,

This must be the craziest thing that has ever happened to me. My brother is about to make a foolish mistake. I am confused and I need to vent. My younger brother and my best friend are mad. I am sure they want to destroy our family. My mum especially who has been a single mother for almost 10 years since our dad died. Things have been difficult for us growing up but our home has never lacked the love and care of our mom.

Olanma (not real name) and I met in year one in University and became very good friends. Ola is is from a very wealthy but divorced family. Her parents had a nasty divorce and she lives with her dad with her siblings. Ola preferred to come spend holidays with me with my small family cos my mom made sure we had a loving environment. When Ola first came to our house, my younger brother just finished his JAMB and was waiting to get into Uni.

By the time we graduated, my brother was still in school. Three years after graduation, I got married and Ola was my bridesmaid. It was so joyful that Ola got engaged a year later and I of course became the bridesmaid cos we are besties. My brother graduated last year and already works in a good paying company. What I never knew was that Ola and my brother liked each other and they were hooking up behind my back because Ola was afraid that their relationship will not be accepted because she is older than my brother.

I planned Ola’s bridal shower and it was a beautiful party. After the party, the next day, very early in the morning, my brother came to my house and said he wanted to talk to me. He was very disorganized. I was worried when he showed up at my door by 7am. What is wrong? This boy asked me to sit down that he has something to tell me. I became scared…I thought something was wrong with mom so I shouted at him to tell me what was wrong.

My brother confessed that him and Ola have been hooking up for a while….like six months and yet she wants to go ahead to marry someone else. My brother is in love with Ola and she has been telling him he is too young for her and besides she is engaged but this chick went to my brother’s place after her bridal shower last night and spent the night with him. My brother decided he needed to spill the secret because he cannot let her marry someone else.

After hearing this, I thought my brother was pranking me. But I called Ola and she told me she would come over. When she came, Ola started crying. Saying she loves my brother but she has to marry her fiance cos her father would never let her marry my brother cos he is younger and he is not rich like her fiance. She said she already told her father about my brother but he told her to forget about him and focus on a man who would guarantee a better future.

This same father that divorced his wife is advising his daughter to marry someone she does not love just because of money? My brother is emotionally upset. The yeye boy is in love. He and Ola are planning to run away and get married without parental consent. So, they just want me to know that they will be running away in a few days. You see, this is completely unbelievable. It will probably k#ll my mother. Plus, how do I explain to Ola’s father that his daughter ran away with my younger brother who just started life?

These people have put me under pressure, not to reveal to anyone what they are up to but I am sorry…I do not think this is right so I have told them to man up and face Ola’s dad or forget about each other. They refuse and they want to go ahead with their childish plan. Ola’s wedding is supposed to be this Friday and Saturday. But she wants to run away with my brother because they have been f#cking for about six months. I told her to run away alone and leave my brother but my yeye brother, just barely 26 years old, is doing lover boy saying he must follow her.

Follow her to where? They said London. They have started processing visa for my brother. They will first run to Ghana and when his visa is ready, they will then go to London together. This is not fairy tale….these people need to wake up to reality. I don’t know why my brother cant see that this is a bad idea and I don’t know what to do. Please this is urgent….should I tell my mother or what? The only person who cant talk to my brother is my mom but he is begging me not to tell her.

More From Lively Stones

What should I do? Should I not tell my mom or should I tell her? I am also upset with my friend that she has been sleeping with my younger brother behind my back. And my brother sleeping with someone’s wife to be. God, my father must be rolling in his grave right now. Is this not an abomination? How will they build a life together on a wrong foundation? Why are these two people not thinking properly? In this day and age, how can two people run away, to marry, in this economy?

This boy is not even thinking of our mother. How will she take it? That her son is running away with a woman? I need your quick advise please before I call area boys to beat some sense into this boy.

  1. Dear poster,you can’t advice those in love…..

Inform Olanma’s father if you have access to him then inform your mum, case closed! To advice people wey dey in love too hard but it’s well…….I pray they don’t regret this their childish behaviour

  2. Your brother is 26 years old, a graduate, working and earning money. Such a person cannot be considered as a child. He has been with Ola for atleast 6 months. Ola is also a well educated woman, I believe around 28 years or more. I feel melancholic why you have the impression that this people cannot decide for themselves.

I can only see that maybe is because Ola is a friend to the sister and the guy is her junior brother so she still look at him that way. True love knows no boundary. Macron’s wife was his primary school teacher. Until we stop undue interference in peoples love affairs this country will never move forward. Both Olas dad, the guys sister feel they are novice in love affairs and want to decide for them. I find this treacherous and they should be allowed to freely express themselves without undue interference.

  3. Hello aunty i think u should allow them run cos the love virus doesnt listen to reasoning.
Let them go only inform your mum and keep praying for them……..all is well with you

  4. Dear poster this sounds like a complicated and sensitive situation. I will advice you to acknowledge that relationships and family dynamics can be complex and challenging to navigate.

Firstly, it’s important to recognize that your friend and brother are adults, and ultimately, their decisions are their own responsibility. However, I understand your concern for your mother’s unawareness of the situation and the potential impact on your family dynamics.

Have you considered having an open and honest conversation with your brother and friend about your concerns? It might be helpful to express your feelings and worries in a non-confrontational manner. Additionally, encouraging them to consider the potential consequences of their actions on your family and their own well-being might be beneficial.

Regarding your friend’s engagement to someone else, that’s a complex issue, and it’s essential to respect her autonomy while also acknowledging the potential hurt and consequences that may arise from her decisions.

Lastly, it might be helpful to have a conversation with your mother about the situation, as it’s essential to keep her informed and aware of the dynamics within the family. However, approach this conversation with empathy and understanding, as this news may be challenging for her to hear.

Remember that you can’t control others’ actions, but you can control how you respond and support those involved. I earnestly wish everything gets resolved quickly best wishes
