When the federal government had announced the second 2 weeks lock down, there was this feeling of sadness but then one can eat at home, relax and enjoy the time, food was not the problem we stocked that up

No one expected visitors at the time, everyone was expected to stay at home, hearing a knock on the door and imagining who that could be and decided to check it out. This woman stood there with her three kids, looking hungry and haggard, the last child about 3 years old, crying.

“Who are you please” “I stay in the neighborhood, for the past 3 days I have not been able to feed the kids, I am exhausted, I have nothing please help us with anything, nothing is too small” tears swelled up my eyelid and my thought wondered on so many single mothers and widows who may be having similar issue but do not have the courage to seek for help.

She was brave to me, very brave. As we discussed further, got to know she was a petty trader but had used her business proceeds to feed the kids who seem to have an increased food consumption due to idleness, her business capital was long expended on food.

Helping out is the surest way to show love and care and this is embedded in giving people who do not have the capacity to give back to you, it is lifting those who are down, ensuring that everyone makes it through the toughest times, using the privilege to the advantage of others and most importantly, it is remembering that we are humans first before anything else.

About 90% families are affected by adverse economic conditions brought by COVID 19 just like that single mother, coping is not the same for everyone. Some persons are twice vulnerable than the others, poor Nigerians, particularly, orphans, single mothers and widows who lives previously on less than 1.25$ a day are some of the worst hit from these conditions with most of them lacking basic needs and have exhausted their business capitals during the time to feed their homes.

So? Let’s heal the world together and provide solace for the vulnerable and ensure that we all make it through this phase of our existence. Let’s remind the single mothers, widows, and orphans in our communities that we are holding their hand in support during the time.

We Save Lives Africa in partnership with Lively Stones Relationship blog will be supporting the most vulnerable, paying attention to single mothers and widows to survive the effect of this pandemic through the BUOY UP-FOODBANK-IPC-Project and we solicit your support to be able to provide tangible food items, PPEs like hand-sanitizers, face mask and medicated soap and business capital to this people.
