Meghan Markle—Who Is Expecting Her Second Child—Is Due at the End of Spring
Meghan Markle and Prince Harry celebrated more than just Valentine’s Day a few days ago. They excitedly announced that they are expecting their second child—and their newest addition will arrive sooner than some may think.
“Harry and Meghan have always wanted a couple of kids—a little brother or sister for [their son], Archie, and they’re excitedly planning for the arrival of their bundle of joy,” an insider told Us Weekly. “It’s a dream come true. The baby is due at the end of spring.”
The couple shared the news with an intimate black-and-white photo captured by their friend and photographer, Misan Harriman, via an iPad. “With the tree of life behind them and the garden representing fertility, life, and moving forward, they didn’t need any direction, because they are, and always have been, waltzing through life together as absolute soulmates,” Misan told British Vogue, People reports. “When you see people who have the connection that they have, it’s like reading the pages of a book.”
The pregnancy announcement also served as a sweet nod to two important people in the duo’s lives. The first? Archie, of course. In the snap, Meghan is seen smiling and resting her head on Prince Harry’s lap as she happily cradles her baby bump. The Duchess of SusS.e.x sported a Carolina Herrera dress in the picture; the garment was actually made for her when she was pregnant with their firstborn.
The soon-to-be parents of two also paid tribute to Prince Harry’s mom, Princess Diana. According to Elizabeth Holmes, the author of HRH: So Many Thoughts on Royal Style ($17.59, amazon.com), the pair announced their pregnancy exactly 37 years (to the date!) after Prince Charles and Princess Diana told the public that they were expecting Prince Harry, their second child.
Meghan Markle and Prince Harry will be sharing even more about their growing family in the coming weeks. The couple will sit down with Oprah Winfrey for a personal and exclusive hour-and-a-half interview, airing on March 7, 2021, on CBS.
“Winfrey will speak with Meghan, The Duchess of SusS.e.x, in a wide-ranging interview, covering everything from stepping into life as a Royal, marriage, motherhood, philanthropic work to how she is handling life under intense public pressure,” CBS shared in a statement. “Later, the two are joined by Prince Harry as they speak about their move to the United States and their future hopes and dreams for their expanding family.”
