The Right Person Will Make You Love Yourself

One of the most challenging obstacles that we face is this concept of ‘the one’.

When contemplating whether or not there is such a thing as ‘the one’, a quote from one of my favorite and most relatable movies comes to mind:

Although I reside in the hopeless romantic category, I understand that there are plenty of people out there who do not share my sentiments. So instead of discussing ‘the one’, instead I’ll talk about ‘the right one’.

Whether you are painfully single, in a committed relationship, or have completely given up on love, please do not settle. No, I am not saying wait for someone tall, dark and handsome to approach you in the rain or wait for a Prince Charming look-alike to gallop his way to you on a white horse. These very unrealistic expectations of love are exactly that: unrealistic expectations.

I am not saying that the fairy tale doesn’t exist, it’s just not what our childhood storybooks and romantic comedies tell us it is. Truthfully, the most beautiful fairy tales were the ones where the damsel in distress (whether it be a boy or girl) was not saved by their romantic counterpart, but via their partners’ presence in their lives, they save themselves.

Fairy tales are based on the belief of soulmates and everlasting love. In modern society, this belief is unpopular, to say the least, but only because our mindset limits us. The majority of 21st century girls settle for partners who do not deserve their love and affection, due to their compulsion to fill the hole in their hearts where self-love should be. They settle for ill treatment because they believe that they do not deserve true happiness. They also settle for the wrong people because they are desperate to get into a relationship instead of waiting for the person who treats them like the queens that they are. The same can also be said for boys.

At the end of the day, many people do not think they are worthy of love and end up in toxic relationships, which is where ‘the right one’ comes in.

The right one will make you fall in love with yourself. We cannot rely on other people to fix us, but the right people can give us a reason to fix ourselves. The right one will make you see yourself in another light. They will show you all the reasons why you deserve to be loved and why you are worthy of happiness. The right one will hold your hand through the rough seas and smile with you in the sunshine. The right one will make you want to become the best version of yourself.

So please, end the toxic relationship. And just hold on. The right one will come into your life when God knows you are ready. When you accept your self-worth your whole life will change.
