True Life Story: Was I wrong to leave work and Attend to a Family Emergency against my Boss approval?

It’s not a relationship matter but office.
I’m working in a facility as medical laboratory technician. My boss is the type that doesn’t grant permission except the case is critical. I was transferred from the head office to a new branch where I work alone with my secretary from 8am to 6pm.
What happened is this, last month I had a youth program in the church (I’m a Methodist) and I’m the youth vice president, my ministers complained that I have not been attending youth meeting both local, circuit and diocesan level, I apologized to them because my president is aware of everything. So that last month program was on Friday night in the diocese.
I told my secretary that I will be going for the program after work on Friday that my coursemate will cover me on Saturday morning then I will resume work in the afternoon because the program was in the village while I’m in the City. She suggested I inform my boss, I told her he will not permit me to go but she’s insisted. I called my boss, explained and pleaded with him that my coursemate will be in the office in the morning because I don’t know how traffic from my village to ph will be. Immediately my boss started shouting that I should resign and go to church that if you are working with him you only go to church on Sundays that he is tired of me every time church infact my church should find me a work.

I was shocked hearing he is tired of me because I work for this man with my clear conscience, I left where I was working because of the way he pleaded with me when my friend recommended me to him. I only go to church on Sundays and night when I close from work here in the city. Since he didn’t permit me, I called my president and minister and told them I can’t attend the praise night because I was not permitted. Throughout that Friday there was no work from morning till evening, it was almost my closing time that two Donors walked in. I attended to these guys, after bleeding them, one of the guys passed on. I went through hell and tears for over 2hrs Before God restored the guy for me out of pity that very day.
That very Friday my secretary was r0bbed while coming to work. I prayed and cried to God for forgiveness.
The one that breaks the Carmel’s back is what happened last week Tuesday, I was called that my Aunty being my dad’s elder sister is not talking since morning that I should come that the last word she said was they should call me for her. This is a woman that supported my parents to see me through school, she took me like her biological child because she didn’t have one. When I received the call, I was already at work, I went in, knelt down and prayed for 1hr.
I know if I call my boss he will not permit me to go but I was left with no option than to call him. I called him and was crying explaining to him, his first response was if my Aunty dies is she the first to die😭, what am I going there to do that I shouldn’t leave the office. I told him my coursemate will work for me he said if I leave I should consider losing the job. Honestly speaking, I called my colleague to come and work with my secretary and I left because the woman is like my mother. I rushed home, tried all my best, took her to the church from church to hospital but she died in my hand on Wednesday in the hospital without saying anything to me 😭😭.

My coursemate was in the office on that Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday but she said no work except two Donors she attended to. To my greatest surprise, throughout my stay in the village from that Tuesday to Sunday when she was buried nobody from the head office called me not even my boss except my secretary. This alone made me cry too. Only for me to hear them on call this night talking about sacking/dropping me and my secretary was begging them that I resumed work today being Monday.
Please elders in the house advice me, if I’m wrong I will still meet them and apologize to them if they insist I will leave. This work is taking my time and restricting me from my services in the church. The peanut I’m receiving monthly doesn’t last for three weeks but I’m still managing. Right now I’m bitter and have decided that if I’m ask to leave I will leave without a word but if you people say I’m wrong by traveling home I will go to them and apologize.
