True Life Story: A Witch Doctor Wants Me To Marry Her And Prosper

Hello Lively Stones,

Most times, l sit and think. I wonder how things has degenerated to this level. But often times, l’m left with nothing but blank images, no solutions whatsoever, just confusions.

At times, l look at my image in the mirror and wonder if l’m the same Ambrose, who was born thirty-four years ago in Warri, Delta State.

I initially thought that Alcohol would help. But it did not. It only compounded my problems. The bottles only bottled the problems within my troubled soul.

If l take you down memory lane, you will realize that something is definitely wrong with me. But the problem is that l don’t even know what the thing is.

At age Seventeen, l had already figured what l wanted to become. All that fascinated me was to become a diplomat, to represent my country in a foreign land. So l engrossed myself in my books. Studying to make sure l excelled in my examinations. It didn’t pay off the first time. I failed the University matriculation Examinations, but at the second attempt, l passed.

That was how l gained admission into the University of Benin, to study international Relations. Honestly, l was filled with hopes when l got admitted. I had hopes that l would become another Boutrous Ghali, or Emeka Anyaoku in the making. I approached it with all the determination l could muster.

I haven’t forgotten the scene the night prior to the day l left for school. I had packed all my bags and was flipping through a booklet, which had information about my school, when Dad walked into my room. I had looked up to see his bulky face, staring through the door.

“Ambrose my son”, was how he began.

“Very soon you will be gone to school. No one will be there to monitor you. I Know you have grown, but you are still a kid. I want to tell you this day that only what you dream about can propel you to the height you want to attain.”

He continued, ” l know you want to become a diplomat. Now that you have gained admission to study international Relations, that’s a good launching pad for you to actualize that dream.”

“I know Dad”, l replied and hugged him.

I was filled with those words of wisdom, when l arrived in the campus. I didn’t want any distractions at all. I concentrated on my studies. But a lot of distractions came my way.

I remember Cult boys meeting me, urging me to join their cult gangs. I remember those nights they would trail me to the hostel, to tell me that l stood the chance of getting any girl l wanted in campus, if l joined them. But that wasn’t my priority. I just wanted to study and achieve my dreams.

Of course, l buried myself in my books. But that is not to say that l didn’t have time for love. While studying hard to become a diplomat of note, l was also searching for a partner that would help me in achieving that dream of mine.

I found that in Jenny, a soft-spoken nice girl. I didn’t need anyone to tell me that she was the woman for me. She understood me and treated me like a man. It didn’t take time for me to give her my whole heart. Infact by the time I was leaving school, l could comfortably say that l knew nothing other than Jenny and my books.

It paid off, l left school with a second class upper degree and had gotten Jenny to agree to marry me. It was all so exciting, nothing else mattered apart from actualizing my dreams and getting married to Jenny.

I could see the zeal in her. She seemed powered by my determination to excel in life. Then, she would always visit me and sleep in my arms, telling me that she was certain that God would do a miracle in my life.

But after my service year in Zamfara state, a lot of things changed. And that was when my problems began.

To be continued this evening….
